Optional Items

  • Area rug (8' x 10’ will fit in most rooms – Pennafort and Fanjeaux room floors are hardwood, Edgehill Village rooms have carpeted floors)
  • Basic utensils: mugs, silverware, a few microwave safe dishes.
  • Bathrobe
  • Bulletin board or white board for your door. It must be mounted with removable double-sided tape or museum putty
  • Computer. We recommend using a leash-lock for laptops.
  • A space fan for your room. Oscillating fans work well in most all rooms.
  • Iron and small ironing board
  • Membership cards/discount cards for warehouse stores (Costco) or discount superstores (Target, Wal-Mart, etc.)
  • Room decorations such as plants, posters (must be hung with sticky tack/putty, or blue colored painter’s tape.)
  • Small refrigerator (no larger than 4.0 cubic feet) – limit one per room
  • Snack food
  • Stamps and stationery
  • Storage bins (under-bed) for books, clothes, etc.

Please note — all electrical appliances must be UL approved and be approved by the Department of Housing and Residence Life. If you have any questions about whether you should bring a specific item, please ask: housing@dominican.edu.

Please leave the following at home:

  • Electric blankets
  • Extension cords (items must be plugged directly into the wall or into a surge protected multi-outlet power strip)
  • Items to burn such as candles and incense
  • Large furniture not supplied by the University
  • Open element appliances — flame or hot plate (these are an extreme fire hazard)
  • Pets of any kind (even super cute ones)
  • Small kitchen appliances: toasters/ovens, hot-pots, espresso machines, rice steamers, etc.
  • Space heaters or air conditioning units
  • We discourage you from bringing microwave ovens. They are a significant cause of power shortages and outages

Please note — if found in your room, these items will be confiscated and not returned.

Each room is equipped with a high-speed internet (ethernet connection). WiFi is also available in all residence halls. You will need an ethernet cord for your computer if you plan on hardwiring into the network (otherwise, you can use WiFi). All cords should be at least 10-feet in length.

Parking on Campus

Dominican offers several options to park your car or bicycle on campus. We're also walking distance to the San Rafael .

  • If you are a transfer student or a continuing student who lives on campus, you will receive a resident permit. This will allow you to park in residence-only parking spaces, which are numbered to match your permit type. While on campus, please only park in your designated parking area, or your car will be cited.
  • First-Year undergraduate students may request a parking permit, however, priority is given to Continuing Students. First-Year students are not guaranteed a parking permit, however have access to the Conlan Parking Lot.
  • The Conlan Recreation Center parking lot is not restricted and is free of charge.
  • Residence hall parking is strictly regulated and enforced. Parking spaces with numbers painted in the space or on the curb-stop are reserved for residence students only.
  • Cars illegally parked in any residence hall space will be towed at the owner’s expense.
  • Resident students should place their parking permit in their front window on the driver's side, lower corner. These vehicles can only park in residence hall spaces. Resident students with parking decals parked elsewhere on campus will be cited if not parked in their designated space in the residence hall lots.

Parking is not permitted in the following areas:

  • At a red curb, yellow curb or loading zone

  • In handicapped parking spaces without displaying proper license or placard

  • In a driveway, fire lane, or in front of a fire hydrant

  • In a pedestrian walkway or path

  • On a lawn

  • On any landscaped area

  • On any other "no parking" designated area

All vehicles parked in violation of the campus parking regulations will be towed at owner’s expense. The average cost of towing is in excess of $300, plus vehicle storage charges.

Please work with the University to provide a safe and secure campus by respecting parking restrictions.

There is covered bicycle storage available outside of Pennafort and Fanjeaux in the walkway. It is highly recommended that you bring and use a strong lock and cable for security.  There is no bicycle storage outside of Meadowlands or Edgehill Village.
