Flights of Fancy
Work by: Joe Ferriso, Stephanie Robison, Carey Lin and Richard Shaw
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 12, 2024, 5-7 p.m.
Dates: September 9, 2024 to October 19, 2024

In its inaugural exhibition at the newly renovated Barbara Goodman Gallery at ÐÓÊ®°Ë, we are pleased to present, Flights of Fancy, an exhibition focused on whimsy and the absurd. Featuring the work of Joseph Ferriso, Stephanie Robison, Carey Lin and Marin County legend Richard Shaw. The three artists work in different mediums, Shaw, famously in porcelain, Robison in marble, wool and bronze, Lin in colorful abstract drawings and Ferriso in painting and sculpture.

The artists in the exhibition look at and embrace whimsy; through their assemblages, sculptures of quirky objects and dynamic melding of various materials to create fanciful works of art. What role does whimsy play in creating a work of art? Through material and subject, the fanciful is allowed to lead the creation, which means boundaries of materials are pushed, as is the line between what's real and what's pretend. This embrace of whimsy and in turn, play, lets each artist explore relationships of objects, ideas and freedom of expression. In embracing the innocence and freeform aspects of play, these artists are able to digest and reinterpret the world around them.
