Research Interests

Sarah primarily studies issues of diversity, equity & inclusion, with a focus on minorities’ barriers to upward mobility in the workplace. Her work focuses on social psychological mechanisms to explain different biases in hiring and promotion practices. For example, showing that threat (e.g., economic recessions) leads to negative outcomes for racial minorities in the United States, and that stereotypes lead to differing perceptions of "qualified" leaders, with practical implications for organizations.
